September President’s Column

Mary Beth Carpenter, AFP Triangle President
Mary Beth Carpenter, AFP Triangle President

Our 2011 NC Philanthropy Conference, hosted by the Triangle chapter on August 11, was a stunning success. Presented in combination with the Charlotte and Triad Chapters of AFP, we had 450 attendees from across the state. Our speakers in four time slots led 30 different sessions that received very good reviews on our post-conference surveys. Andrew Watt, CEO and President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, opened the conference highlighting changes in our profession. Our keynote speaker, Jocelyn Harmon, spurred development professionals to embrace online marketing and new social media outlets to spread our messages in her opening plenary remarks.

We extend a gracious thank you to our 13 Conference Sponsors, especially to our lead sponsor, First Citizens Bank, and to our 17 Resource Partners without whom we could not have presented the program.

Our Conference Chair Oshana Watkins, who also serves on our AFP Triangle Board, did an exemplary job along with members of our conference committee and I extend a warm thank you to them for their hard work and excellence in this conference. Thanks also to everyone who volunteered as room hosts, committee members, and to those who provided day of event on-site assistance.

Please mark your calendars for August 9, 2012, when next year’s conference will be held in the Triad.
