Nominations are open for our 2012 National Philanthropy Day awards. I encourage each of you to submit a nomination for an outstanding person or organization whose contribution to philanthropy in the Triangle is exemplary. NPD Nominations Committee co-chairs Clarenda Stanley and Dee Blake have done an outstanding job simplifying the process while maintaining the standards.
Those of you who have attended know that the NPD awards luncheon is an empowering event celebrating all that is accomplished in the Triangle through philanthropy, and recognizing with special honor people and organizations whose outstanding contributions have significantly enriched our community. Last year, one of our Youth in Philanthropy award winners, Leanne Joyce, brought tears to my eyes as I saw and felt the noblest impulses of fundraising reflected in her spirit.
We all know people and organizations deserving of community recognition and praise for their contributions to philanthropy in the Triangle. (Who just came to your mind right now? That’s who you should nominate!) Let those people and organizations shine and inspire all of us to do more and accomplish more in service to the greater good. Participate, and do it now. Make a nomination!
On another note, I am also very pleased to share with you the vision statement created by this year’s board of directors, which will remain posted on the board of directors’ page on our website throughout this year. Professional Development co-chair Bill Peck facilitated two sessions earlier this year in which your board collaborated to put into words its aspirations for service to the chapter in 2012:
The 2012 Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals NC Triangle Chapter values our members and will create an inclusive and enriching membership experience. To fulfill this intention, we commit to: Being accessible and responsive to members; providing opportunities for networking and professional development that are inviting and fun; inspiring members to learn the skills, values and ethics of fundraising; and providing a safe, supportive and borderless environment. We commit to doing these things while upholding the ethical standards of our fundraising profession.
Your colleagues serving on the board this year put their hearts into the work they do serving the Triangle Chapter. You can see it in the quality of the programs, events and activities they create for your benefit. Your active participation in the chapter honors their efforts. So, make a nomination for National Philanthropy Day, register for an upcoming event, and introduce a colleague to AFP Triangle!
