Essential Job Duties
The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying, qualifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors to NC State University. Key responsibilities:
- Manage prospect portfolios to cultivate six- and seven-figure gifts
- Develop strategies to align philanthropic interest with university priorities
- Collaborate across campus stakeholders to maximize fundraising effectiveness
- Meet/exceed annual goals for outreach, qualifications, visits, proposal submissions, and funds raised
- Engage in travel (local, out-of-state), occasional nights/weekends, and university/college events
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, including 3 years of progressive advancement opportunity
Other Required Qualifications
- Proven success raising major individual gifts, preferably in higher education
- Deep knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and capital campaigns
- Strong relationship building (alumni, faculty, volunteers, administrators)
- Excellent communication, listening, organizational, and analytical skills
- High integrity, entrepreneurial mindset, perseverance, and positive attitude
- Proficient with donor databases and common software tools
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Prior responsibility in institutional advancement/in higher ed
- Experience supporting academic units and designing strategic fundraising programs
- Familiarity with land-grant and research Tier One university environments
Licenses / Certifications Required
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required within 60 days of start date
