Essential Job Duties

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying, qualifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors to NC State University. Key responsibilities:

  • Manage prospect portfolios to cultivate six- and seven-figure gifts
  • Develop strategies to align philanthropic interest with university priorities
  • Collaborate across campus stakeholders to maximize fundraising effectiveness
  • Meet/exceed annual goals for outreach, qualifications, visits, proposal submissions, and funds raised
  • Engage in travel (local, out-of-state), occasional nights/weekends, and university/college events

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including 3 years of progressive advancement opportunity

Other Required Qualifications

  • Proven success raising major individual gifts, preferably in higher education
  • Deep knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and capital campaigns
  • Strong relationship building (alumni, faculty, volunteers, administrators)
  • Excellent communication, listening, organizational, and analytical skills
  • High integrity, entrepreneurial mindset, perseverance, and positive attitude
  • Proficient with donor databases and common software tools
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Prior responsibility in institutional advancement/in higher ed
  • Experience supporting academic units and designing strategic fundraising programs
  • Familiarity with land-grant and research Tier One university environments

Licenses / Certifications Required

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required within 60 days of start date
