January 2013 President’s Column

Oshana Watkins Oshana Watkins, AFP Triangle President

Happy New Year!

I am Oshana Watkins, your new 2013 AFP Triangle Chapter President. I am very excited about 2013 and what this year has to offer. I am more excited about what I can give to it. My theme for the year is REJUVENATION, both personally and professionally. Many people are calling this year the year of new beginnings; but 2012 was a good year for me, I just want to remix and revive it. My goals for the chapter this year include bringing to you awesome programming and building on the great works the former boards have completed.

The first program of the year is our Philanthropy Forecast on January 30th taking place at the Cary Embassy Suites. The event will focus on “Getting a Head Start” on the issues that may affect fundraising in the coming year. Hear from corporate/foundation leadership; city/county funding representatives; individual major donors; UNC Chapel Hill representative expert on government funding; and our keynote speaker, Mr. Dan Gerlach, President of The Golden Leaf Foundation. Mr. Gerlach will address the impact of legislative changes and deals to come relative to charitable giving and non-profit impact. Register now for this rewarding program.

As we transform this year, we need you on our committees. Our proposed slate of board members are longing for committee members. If you have never served or it has been a while, we want you. Every chair needs a committee; please contact one of the chairs or myself to serve. Lastly, social media is one of our very valuable communication resources. Like us on facebook and follow us on twitter.

Let’s make it a great year!

REMIX, REVIVE, REJUVENATE!
