As the new AFP President for 2011, I’d like to welcome you to our new AFP Triangle website. We’ve launched this site in hopes of providing more interactive service to our members and a more complete look at our chapter for our guests. I welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can improve the site for the future.
Thank you to all the presenters and participants in last month’s Philanthropy Forecast, held at the Sheraton on January 18. We had 135 registrants and four sets of panels representing business, foundations, governmental grants, and demographic sectors all speaking on their view of the fundraising climate for 2011. I applaud our event co-chairs , Tom Hull and Pat Hall, for their hard work in masterminding this program and running this very successful event for the chapter.
The AFP Triangle chapter has also just received notice that it is the recipient of the Charles R. Stephens Excellence in Diversity Award. We are one of three chapters internationally to receive this award, which is named for the 1992-1993 AFP Chair Charles R. Stephens, CFRE, and recognizes his efforts in bringing AFP’s diversity programs to the forefront. The award honors the year’s most outstanding demonstration by AFP chapters of leadership, creativity and initiative in building diversity in membership or programming. Special thanks to our Diversity Chair Clarenda Stanley, for expanding the chapter’s Coffee N’ Conversations program, a networking program that helped us earn this award. This year, Clarenda intends to expand the program to more frequent meetings. The award will be presented in Chicago next month at the AFP International Conference. We have also earned the Friends of Diversity Award for the second year in a row, again thanks to Clarenda’s efforts in chairing this committee and bringing diversity issues to the forefront. I hope to see you at a future meeting!
