May Planned Giving Panel

Join us on Tuesday, May 20 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Smedes Hall at St. Mary’s School, 900 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27603 for a dynamic panel discussion designed to help fundraising professionals navigate the often-complex world of planned giving. Whether you’re new to donor engagement or a seasoned professional, this session will provide practical insights and real-world strategies to strengthen your relationships and clarify your role.

Panelists:

Joe Langenderfer

Joe Langenderfer, CFRE, Director of Planned Giving, Partnership With Native Americans

A seasoned development leader and trusted advisor since 1981, Joe is known for his expertise in planned giving, wealth management strategies and general development. He joined Partnership With Native Americans in 2021 as Director of Planned Giving focusing on legacy gifts and developing planned gift and in-take policies. He also educates wealth managers, foundations and others about tax-advantaged giving for Native causes. Prior to PWNA, Joe operated his own limited liability company and worked for various Catholic nonprofits including managing grant-making foundations, overseeing annual and capital giving campaigns, increasing direct mail gifts, and conducting feasibility studies and trust planning. He currently volunteers as the Board Treasurer for the NC Council of National Committee on Gift Planning, committee member for the Triangle Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals and member of the USA Leadership Council for Tepeyac Leadership Institute. Joe is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a graduate of the University of Toledo with a degree in Criminal Justice. Joe brings to PWNA lifelong skills in development, education and compliance related to legacy and major gifts. He and his wife, Cathy, live in Raleigh and enjoy their eleven step/children and two grandchildren.

 

Katherine Miller

Katherine Miller, Executive Director of Gift Planning, North Carolina State University

Katherine has served as Executive Director of Gift Planning for NC State since 2021. She actively works with donors to structure both planned gifts and current, tax-advantaged gifts to the university while managing the day-to-day activities of the Office of Gift Planning.

Prior to joining the university in 2016 as Associate Director of Gift Planning, she was a Tax Manager at Deloitte Tax in the Private Wealth group. At Deloitte, she managed the tax compliance and planning needs of high net worth individuals and family offices, with a focus on estate and gift tax. Her experience also includes work with trusts and non-profits, including both operating and private foundations.

Katherine was raised in Raleigh, NC and earned both her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and Master of Accounting degree from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Katherine is a member of the North Carolina Planned Giving Council and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

 

Brandon Wright

Brandon Wright, Assistant Head of School for Development and Fundraising, Saint Mary’s School

Brandon Wright is Assistant Head of School for Development and Fundraising for Saint Mary’s School. In this critical role, he will bring the school’s Forever Campaign to successful completion and guide development initiatives to support the school’s mission of preparing girls for college and life. From 2018-2023, he served as Saint Mary’s Director of Gift Planning. Previously, Brandon spent 16 years in development at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
