Assistant Director for Operations and Volunteer Management
Department Description:
Gillings Advancement offers a variety of services to facilitate the School’s research, teaching, and service mission, promoting the development of public health policy, publicizing School activities and public health issues, and generating financial support from alumni, foundations, corporations, and the NC Legislature. The office also coordinates special events.
Position Description:
The primary function of this position is to oversee the day-to-day business operations and finance needs for SPH Advancement including tracking the fundraising progress, department and campaign expenditures, and other ad hoc project budgets. In close coordination and consultation with the Associate Dean for Finance and Business, the Assistant Director for Operations will manage an annual operating budget of approximately $500,000 across various funding types. Additionally, they will focus
on high-level prospect and constituent relations on behalf of the Associate Dean of Advancement and will serve as the primary administrative liaison to the volunteer boards. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Advancement and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean for Finance and Business.
The Assistant Director for Operations is responsible for independently organizing and executing large internal and external meetings and events for alumni, donors, prospects, and University leadership; and assisting in the planning and implementation of all cultivation and stewardship activities. They will serve on the Advancement leadership team; engage with the Associate Dean of Advancement and other School leaders in discussions/decisions related to the overall direction of Advancement activities in the School.
While the position doesn’t have a fundraising goal, their projects are critical in the support of the department’s fundraising efforts. Working in partnership with the Dean’s office, Department Chairs, and School’s communications team, this position supports a unified approach to the Gillings School messaging and offers support and policy oversight to assist in meeting the School’s fundraising goals.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Entry-level with Master’s; or Bachelor’s and 0-2 years of experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Experience overseeing and tracking various budget types. The incumbent must possess superior problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
The department prefers the selected candidate to be proficient in Excel, MS Word, and Adobe software applications. Also preferred is experience with UNC Financial Systems and RAMSeS.

Salary Range:
$57,960-$65,000
