Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The Assistant Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement works with the Director to create and execute strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporation and foundation prospects that results in significant contributions to UNCW and strengthens scholarly efforts across all academic disciplines. This position reports to the Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement and works closely with the Associate Provost for Research on managing key grant proposals from identification through stewardship. This position is a team member of the Office of Corporate and Foundation Engagement in University Advancement, working in partnership with units across campus to secure funding from corporations and foundations.
The Assistant Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement strengthens and grows the corporate and foundation philanthropy program, positioning UNCW to raise significant money through complex, multifaceted, high quality relationships with corporations and foundations.
Works collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators and advancement to match university needs, strengths and interests with the interests of prospective foundation and corporate supporters. Manages a portfolio of funding prospects at the local, regional/state and national level. Manages proposal and LOI development for corporate and foundation prospects (write, review and edit content, including narratives, budgets and attachments). Maintains report and proposals deadline calendars.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Relevant post-baccalaureate degree required, or undergraduate degree with relevant experience in substitution.
Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience in the design, implementation, and execution of successful fundraising programs, including proposal and grant writing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to the following areas:
- Master’s degree
- Experience in a higher education
- Ability to understand the nature of corporate and foundation philanthropy as it relates to higher education and the ability to communicate the critical role of corporate and foundation support in ensuring the success of the research, teaching, scholarship, and outreach mission of the university
- Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills and the ability to initiate and collaborate with others, at all levels
- Ability to work interdependently and independently in a collaborative environment
- Possesses a passion for service excellence, integrity, a positive outlook, a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and committed to high performance and dedication to the value of higher education
- Demonstrated record of accomplishment of public and private development efforts including proficiency in the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, group, corporate and foundation prospects, preferably in the non-profit or higher educational sector

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Division for University Advancement responds to the needs of a variety of external and internal constituents in achieving its primary goals to: 1) Increase private financial support for prioritized university programs and activities, and 2) Improve external relations for the university through effective board management and donor stewardship. The division strives to raise funds, as outlined by the Chancellor’s vision statement and strategic plan, from the private sector to further the university mission of pursuing the resources that will enable our faculty and students to excel, and becoming intensely regionally engaged. In doing so, the division plans strategically to facilitate the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all constituencies, and seeks to positively promote the university. The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with components of the campus community as well as external audiences including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, legislators, volunteer board members and friends. Development areas include major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, annual giving, UNCW constituent liaison and alumni relations. Prospect management and research, advancement services, university events and boards, and the business office are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.
