University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement. The Associate Vice Chancellor functions as the chief operating officer with responsibilities for the business and financial services, and operational support of the University Development Office. The Associate Vice Chancellor reports to the Vice Chancellor for Development and is a member of the Vice Chancellor’s executive leadership team. The Associate Vice Chancellor provides leadership, vision and strategic planning for all advancement services functions while ensuring best practices as recommended by professional organizations such as CASE, CAE, APRA, and AFP; and ensuring that all internal procedures adhere to IRS guidelines for philanthropic gifts. This includes oversight of and management responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Application Development and Support, Infrastructure and Technology, Donor Relations, Revenue Management, and Facilities Management.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.

Qualifications and Experience: Eight plus years of broad operations management experience and demonstrated success with institutional administration, finance, or operations. Five plus years of executive level experience and proven leadership. A thorough working knowledge of fundraising operations: Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Technology Infrastructure and Services, Gift and Biographical Records Management, Research, and Facilities Management. Superior strategic, operational, and financial skills with a strong grasp of industry best practices and business acumen. Solid understanding of the advantages and drawbacks of traditional and emerging technology in development and alumni relations. Experience working in a complex environment serving many internal clients and external constituents with the ability to network throughout the University, serving as a resource and identifying resources. Collaborative, collegial and customer service focused orientation, eager and able to engage a diverse stakeholder base, and able to build strong professional relationships. A convener able to synthesize many ideas and produce processes that address a wide variety of goals and objectives. Record of creative and entrepreneurial management; the ability to build, lead, mentor and motivate staff; and the ability to encourage change and growth in both people and programs. A strong commitment to personal and professional development, and the ability to build a strong, autonomous, and collaborative team. Excellent interpersonal skills and professional presence with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization. Strong personal integrity and work ethic. This position requires the highest level of trustworthiness, discretion, and ethics. Strong communications ability, success in providing consultative thought leadership for senior leaders on advancement operations initiatives and experience developing contend for a wide variety of activities and platforms.
