Position Title: Development Director
Hiring Range: $70,000 – 88,000
SUMMARY
The Development Director is responsible for all project management aspects of organization’s fundraising strategy. The Director coordinates with executive leadership to design, implement, and manage all fundraising activities including annual board giving, corporate, public, and private grant opportunities, special events and other agency related solicitations. The Development Director collaborates with and facilitates cross functional teams to identify and coordinate grant opportunities and fundraising events. The Director works with the network of Smart Start Local Partnerships to co-create resources and tools for local fundraising.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
FUNDRAISING TO SUPPORT NCPC AND SMART START NETWORK MISSION
• Implement a complete stewardship process for ongoing donor management, which includes scheduling, tracking, and donor communications. Manage all corporate and individual sponsor, donors, and grantor information in database. Ensure compliance with applicable records retention policies. Ensure the confidentiality of information relating to private donors.
• Assist the NCPC Board’s Fund Development Committee in developing strategies to initiate and meet fundraising goals. Manage all fundraising and development reporting processes and procedures to staff and board members.
• Collaborate with the Communications Dept on the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for fund development efforts.
• Develop a shared service model that supports local partnerships in accessing and responding to grant opportunities, including a range of options from direct support to training and technical assistance.
• Maintain regular communication and cultivate a strong network of donors and granting organizations.
GRANTS AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
• Use programmatic data, research evidence, implementation science, budget information, as well as an equity lens to inform annual grants planning.
• Prepare budgets and achieve project results within the budget parameters, established time frames, standards of quality, and funders’ satisfaction.
• In partnership with the Budget and Grants Manager, continuously monitor, review and revise grant project budgets to ensure effective implementation and spend-down rate.
• Work closely with budget, grants, and finance staff to ensure compliance to all funder requirements.
SUPERVISION
• Build a coordinated and effective team by recruiting and selecting the best people, providing professional development opportunities, coaching, and promoting teamwork and collaboration.
• Model organization’s values and support a positive, productive organizational climate.
TRAVEL: Approximately 25%
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related degree from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree preferred in related field. Preferred experience in non-profit organizations with a focus in early childhood education, family support, and health in the human services industry.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience with increasing primary responsibility for fundraising and grant management goals, with 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies, techniques, and applications, including online fundraising and donation management solutions
- Proven experience in successful development of grant proposals and leveraging resources through partnerships and collaboration.
- Ability to conceptualize systems-level concepts and relationships as well as pay attention to details.
- Successful experience leading and supervising productive, cohesive teams, using active improvement cycles
- Project management skills, including ability to make decisions and solve problems by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution. Ability to develop and monitor budgets to ensure events are within budget parameters
- Administration and management skills, including resource allocation and coordination of people and resources
- Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, including potential major donors and high-profile community leaders.
