This exciting new position of Executive Director, Harnett Health Foundation, presents a tremendous opportunity for a dynamic nonprofit professional to build a fundraising program to support this vital, expanding hospital system. With the support of excellent hospital and system leadership, the Executive Director will share the vision and raise funds to support a new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center while simultaneously developing a best-practice fundraising program. Based in Lillington near Campbell University, Central Harnett Hospital is thirty minutes south of the Triangle and less than an hour from downtown Raleigh.

CLASSIFICATION: Gift Officer II, EXEMPT
JOB SUMMARY: The Gifts Officer will plan, implement, and direct a comprehensive development and fundraising program for the Harnett Health Foundation, which supports Betsy Johnson Hospital and Central Harnett Hospital. The hospitals belong to the broader Cape Fear Valley Health System.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Vice President, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation
MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Direct all development and fundraising activities for Harnett Health Foundation, in conjunction with Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation
- Create and implement a written annual development plan
- Based on industry best practices, direct all development activities including annual giving, events, grants, major giving, and planned giving.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors that have an interest and capacity to support the fundraising priorities of the hospitals
- Manage the Harnett Health Foundation board of directors and effectively engage board members and other volunteers in development activities
- Work collaboratively as a team member of the broader Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation
- Professionally represent the hospitals in the community to advance public relations and community engagement
- Effectively communicate, both through written and verbal methods, fundraising priorities and community impact to donors and the broader community
- Working with the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Vice President, create and regularly report on a development budget that includes expenses, projected revenue, and actual revenue
- Maintain detailed tracking of prospects and gifts through Raisers Edge database system
- Assist marketing and communications staff in the development of case statements and marketing materials to be used in fundraising activities
- Maintain an understanding of the mission, goals, and priorities of Cape Fear Valley Health System and Harnett Health
- Participate in continued professional development through inside and outside sources
- Demonstrate respect for patients and maintain confidentiality
- Perform other duties as directed
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, or similar field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Certified Fund Raising Executive credential preferred.
Valid NCDL required.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Seven years of experience in fundraising with five years’ experience in major giving or director level fundraising required. Experience supervising others, including volunteers, is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Proven success in advanced fundraising activities required
- Strong initiative, leadership, and program management skills required
- Excellent professional presence and ability to work successfully with executive and philanthropic leaders required
- Working knowledge of the fundraising practices in a healthcare institution preferred
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team required
- Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards required
- Board management experience preferred
- Experience overseeing a capital campaign preferred
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge database preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sitting, standing, and walking most of the day
- Operating a motor vehicle as part of job responsibilities
- Occasional overnight travel for training and donor visits
