The Grants Manager is an essential member of the Council’s Fund Development team, responsible for the overall grant funding processes, including the creation of a grants timeline, grant research & development, generation of reports, review of grant proposals & reports, and maintenance of accurate records for corporate, foundation and United Way constituencies. They will work closely with department teams, including but not limited to program and/or membership staff, to explore funding opportunities that will support their established strategies, and gather information and data needed for writing high-quality, accurate, and compelling proposals and reports for funders. This position reports to the Director of Major Gifts.
The responsibilities of the Grants Manager include but are not limited to:
• Curate a library of impact stories and quantitative data to utilize in proposals
• Craft compelling proposals and case statements, including planning, writing, reviewing, editing, and finalizing proposal packages, including budgets and required attachments
• Develop a corporate sponsorship package with relevant and attractive engagement and recognition benefits for both potential and existing corporate partners
• Ensure timely submission of proposals and reports
Grant Cycle Management
• Collaborates with Chief Development Officer and Director of Major Gifts to set strategy for current and prospective corporate donors
• Establish timelines that include the gathering of relevant data/information for proposal content, internal routing and approvals, and submission to funding sources
• Collaborates with program and membership departments, fund development team, and other staff as needed to collect and assemble the information needed for the development of grant proposals and reports
• Coordinates presentations, site visits, and other application support materials as required by the funder
• Creates and maintains a standard operating procedure for tracking grant info in donor database in order to better reflect achievement of fundraising goals
• Coordinates with the Marketing and Communications department to publicize grant awards and program department to ensure partnership agreement and event sponsorship recognition benefits are fulfilled
• Collaborate with funded program and membership staff, Director of Donor Relations, and the Girl Scout Research Institute to ensure the activities, goals, and outcomes of grant-funded programs are achieved and effectively measured. Uses data to report back to funders to ensure funder expectations are met. Uses data to report back to the program delivery team to improve programming as needed.
• Prepares and submits subsequent program reports and stewardship pieces
• Become familiar with and remain up to date with the Girl Scout Research Institute studies and data
• Advises management to short- and long-term funding strategies and priorities for partners
• Regularly research, identify, and apply for new funding sources for programs and other GSNCCP initiatives to support the mission of Girl Scouting
Supports All Aspects of Council’s Fund Development Strategy
• Partners collaboratively and proactively with Fund Development Team to ensure coordination of the Council’s development efforts
• Develops & implements cultivation, solicitation, and recognition/appreciation strategies for donors within the portfolio, consistent with Council’s fund development strategy and in collaboration with Director of Donor Relations
• Manage a process to evaluate current partnerships for ROI and future capacity
• Write content for materials as directed
• Work with appropriate staff and volunteers to ensure that all aspects of a successful event are coordinated towards a common goal
• Monitors weekly reports for accuracy
• Utilizes leads from board members, staff, donors, and volunteers to inform, engage, connect and solicit donors to the council
• Develops a thorough understanding of Girl Scout mission and programming, including Strategic Plan, to ensure proactive support of fund development team and overall Council efforts
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Major Gifts or Chief Development Officer
Success in this position depends on the candidate’s strong interpersonal and organizational skills and disciplined project management, a belief in the Council’s mission, vision, and the case for support, and the energy and enthusiasm to achieve organizational goals.
• Bachelor’s degree (in communications, marketing, English, or nonprofit management) and at least 2 years grant writing experience preferred, or 6 years equivalent experience in a fund development department or with fund development responsibilities in a nonprofit environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively articulate the mission, goals, and accomplishments of GS-NCCP to potential and current funders
• Excellent time management and project management skills, including high attention to detail, effective analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and staff
• Intermediate level knowledge or higher of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, especially mail merges and formatting. Demonstrated fund development database experience, preferably with Raiser’s Edge.
• Experience with and interest in survey creation, data analytics
• Service-oriented team player able to work with others at all levels of the organization
• Proven ability to exercise good and independent judgment, consistently follow-through, plan and act strategically, tactfully, and creatively
• Strong commitment to the mission, vision, values, and programs of the organization, and the ability to convey that information
• Ability to work flexible and changing schedules, including evenings and weekends
