DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Raleigh School is a nonprofit dedicated to educating young children. We seek to foster a love of learning in an atmosphere of challenge, inquiry, and respect. Our approach is child-centered and developmentally appropriate. Founded in 1952, The Raleigh School currently serves 300 families and 400 students ages 18 months through 5th grade.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Development Associate will be a key member of the team focused on advancing the school’s philanthropic efforts aimed at enhancing our culture of giving. The position requires a person who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, an effective communicator, energetic, and committed to our mission. General duties include coordinating the school’s annual fund, special event management, donor stewardship, donor database proficiency, social media management and capital campaign support. The Development Associate is a full-time, non-exempt position, and reports to the Director of Development. This position is a temporary position that will be filled for at least 2 years. The school will assess its needs following the conclusion of a capital campaign.

Position will begin Fall 2017.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ANNUAL FUND
 Coordinate with Director of Development to produce annual fund timelines, budget, communications, gift processing, and acknowledgement procedures.
 Work with Annual Fund committee to facilitate communication with the current parents and solicit annual fund gifts through mail, phone, and electronic media.
 Manage incoming gifts via mail and database.
 Process gifts in Raiser’s Edge through batches and assure timely and proper acknowledgement.
 Track parent participation.
 Coordinate with Director of Development on appeals to current parents, faculty, staff, alumni parents, grandparents, alumni students and friends.
 Prepare reports as needed.
 Communicate results of campaign to constituencies during the campaign and report final results to the community.

SPECIAL EVENT MANAGEMENT
 Work with Carnival and The Raleigh Cool committees to successfully execute fundraising goals and community objectives.
 Manage all logistics, including, rentals, food, signs, vendors & volunteers.
 Responsible for event timeline, budget oversight, event website, t-shirt sales, promotion, and reporting.
 Manage sponsorship solicitations.

DONOR DATABASE
 Enter and maintain accurate constituent information in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
 Process gifts and assure timely and proper acknowledgement.
 Manage and generate timely pledge reminders.
 Produce exports and mail merges for all fundraising campaigns and special events.
 Generate queries, reports and donor lists for Development on an ongoing basis, as well as weekly and monthly reports for the Business Office; reconcile donations with Business Office on an ongoing basis.

ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
 Responsible for social media timeline and content in concert with Director of Development and other staff.
 Support capital campaign clerical needs and objectives as requested.
 Focus on building and maintaining donor relationships on behalf of The Raleigh School.
 Provide support for meetings, such as room reservations and hospitality.
 Provide general assistance to the Director of Development, and participate in other Development Office and school-wide activities as requested.
 Partner with the staff and parent Development team, demonstrating a collaborative nature and collective ownership of overall team goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s Degree with at least two years of relevant office experience required.
 Database management experience required, preferably with Raiser’s Edge.
 Impeccable attention to detail.
 Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 Event planning experience preferred.
 Outstanding interpersonal skills and judgment; high level of professionalism.
 Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize, plan and follow through on tasks.
 Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete multiple tasks on time.
 Proven ability to work well within a team and independently.
 Demonstrated experience in all aspects of clerical responsibilities.
 Discretion in handling confidential information.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
 Some nights and weekends required.
 Ability to type and sit for long periods/Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds.

The Development Associate is a full-time, non-exempt, twelve-month position. Salary will be competitive based upon experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
