Chapter outreach to eastern North Carolina fundraising professionals In 2006, the board of the Triangle Chapter decided to explore the possibilities of starting one or two new AFP chapters to serve people working in fundraising in eastern North Carolina. At that time none of the six North Carolina AFP chapters was located further east than Raleigh. This meant that fundraisers in the eastern counties of the state had to travel a long way to benefit from the networking and professional development opportunities provided by AFP. The possibility of starting new chapters to serve eastern NC was discussed at a meeting of interested individuals held in New Bern in October 2006. Mike Winn, AFP’s Chapter Services representative for the region, was there to describe the advantages and describe the process of forming a chapter. Following that meeting, a group of fundraisers in Wilmington went ahead to formally establish a new AFP Chapter, with memberships, programs and activities. This new chapter was recognized at the AFP International Conference in Dallas in March 2007. For information about the chapter contact Julie Rehder (julier@davishealthcc.com). Letter From the Chapter PresidentI look forward to an exciting year with many goals. We have many new faces in our membership and on the 2007 AFP board. AFP is dedicated to making sure members have the skills, knowledge and resources to succeed. The driving force behind professional philanthropy is the professional fundraiser. He or she serves as a promoter, advocate, solicitor, enabler and steward of relationships – acting with the highest ethical standards of solicitation, and the technical competency to facilitate the gift and the donor’s wishes. Whether it’s getting your CFRE or getting more involved on AFP committees - I look forward to working with Chapter members to make 2007 a year of increased membership, increased public awareness as well as providing many educational opportunities through audio conferences, monthly programs and symposiums and the Statewide Educational Conference. As a member I urge you to
